Enhanced Absorbance and Electron Collection in Inverted Organic Solar Cells

Abstract:
 An investigation of the absorption enhancement and stability of organic solar cells (OSCs) with regular and reverse configurations will be discussed. The simulation reveals that OSCs with reverse geometry always possess a higher absorption compared to the structurally identical regular configuration OSCs. The reverse configuration OSCs, have an organic functional stack sandwiched between an Al-modified indium tin oxide transparent cathode and an opaque bi-layer MoO3/Ag anode is more efficient than a control regular OSC. The dissociation of excitons at the Al/organic cathode interface in regular geometry OSCs hampers the electron collection. The origin of unfavorable electron collection is mainly due to the compensation of drifted photo-generated electrons at the organic/cathode (Al) interface, which can be eliminated, e.g., by inserting a thin ZnO interlayer between the organic layer and Al electrode. This work clearly reveals that the removal of the unfavorable interfacial exciton dissociation is a perquisite for a significant enhancement in power conversion efficiency in OSCs.
 
Biography:
朱福荣现任香港浸会大学物理系教授。于1983年和1986年,在复旦大学物理系分别获得学士和硕士学位。1993年获得澳大利亚查尔斯达尔文大学(Charles Darwin University)物理系博士学位。于1993至1995年,在日本京都大学电气与电子工程系从事博士后研究,1995年至1997年,在澳大利亚莫道克大学(Murdoch University)物理系任研究员,从事等离子体化学气相沉积硅薄膜器件的研究工作。1997−2009年在新加坡材料研究院 (Institute of Materials Research and Engineering) 从事有机电致发光二极管和有机太阳能电池的研究。2009年加入香港浸会大学物理系。目前主要从事有机光电子器件物理的教学和研究工作。已发表120余篇研究论文,论文被他引3000余次。培养博士研究生14人,已毕业7人。
